When struggling to overcome trauma, and repair and rebuild damaged relationships with ourselves and others, the unyielding love of an animal can make all the difference in how we fare. As a tangible, physical element to the otherwise abstract emotional process of emotional and psychological recovery work, we pair clients with loyal, nonjudgmental canine confidants who traverse the road to recovery alongside them, making it a more bearable, impactful, and effective experience.

Seeking Safety is an evidence-based, present-focused counseling model that helps people attain safety from trauma and/or substance abuse, and/or other forms of compulsory or self-harming behavioral addiction(s).
LEARN MORE ABOUT THE MODEL HERE:
We have customized the Seeking Safety experience to include the presence of therapy dogs; and have developed dog-related handouts and interactive dog-inclusive exercises for each of Seeking Safety's 25 treatment themes, in order to provide clients a tangible way of implementing what they've learned each session into hands-on practice with loving, four-legged, role playing partners.
Best suited for: Residential or outpatient SUD recovery meetings or (group or individual) therapy sessions.
Our general Seeking Safety + Dogs course is 16 weeks long, with each weekly session lasting between 1.5 and 2 hours. However, this curriculum is highly adaptable and customizable. The more of the treatment a client experiences, the better. But each treatment theme can also effectively stand alone.
Treatment themes include: SAFETY * PTSD: TAKING BACK YOUR POWER * INTEGRATING THE SPLIT SELF * ASKING FOR HELP * DETACHING FROM EMOTIONAL PAIN (GROUNDING) * RED & GREEN FLAGS * COPING WITH TRIGGERS * SETTING BOUNDARIES IN RELATIONSHIPS * SELF-CARE * HEALING FROM ANGER
